It’s Time to Celebrate Our Dental Hygienists and National Dental Hygiene Month!
While everyone is spending October preparing for Halloween and other fall festivities, at Smile Dental Clinics, we are busy celebrating National Dental Hygiene Month. This holiday serves as a reminder to practice daily oral hygiene habits that promote optimal oral health. It is also a perfect opportunity to honor those who help keep clean and care for your teeth — dental hygienists. We want to take some time during the week of October 18-22 to celebrate the amazing work our dental hygienists do.
What is the Job of a Dental Hygienist?
When you visit our office, you will have the pleasure of working with one of our amazing hygienists. During your routine hygiene examination and cleaning, which should take place every six months, a dental hygienist will not only clean your teeth thoroughly to be sure to remove all plaque, tartar buildup and lingering bacteria, but will also inspect your mouth for problem areas. During the cleaning, your hygienist may notice an area that needs further inspection by one of our dentists. It is not uncommon for our hygienists to take any needed X-rays or scans of your teeth. Dental hygienists help our office run smoothly as they perform numerous tasks and assist our dentists with various procedures.
Habits to Promote Healthy Teeth and Gums
If you are experiencing regular decay and are struggling to properly clean your mouth, our dental hygienists are more than happy to review the proper steps to care for your teeth and gums. Just as a reminder, it is important to brush your teeth thoroughly for two minutes twice a day. We also recommend using dental floss daily to be sure to remove any lingering food and bacteria between your teeth and along the gum line. Be sure to use gentle strokes when brushing and not vigorous, harsh motions that can be causing lasting damage to your tooth enamel.
If you are visiting our office between October 18-22, please give an extra big thank you to our dental hygienists. We are so thankful for the services they provide to our patients and everything they do to help our office. If it has been longer than six months since you have visited our office for a hygiene examination and cleaning we would love to see you! Be sure to contact our office located in Phoenix, AZ to schedule an appointment. We look forward to seeing you soon!
