The Effect Pregnancy Can Have On Oral Health
Are you planning to add to your family or currently pregnant, or have you recently had a baby? Dental care before, during, and after pregnancy is a must. Many of our patients are surprised to learn that pregnancy not only changes their bodies, but can have some lasting effects on dental health as well. Hormonal changes can cause a change in your oral health and leave you more susceptible to decay and gum disease.
Dental Care Before Pregnancy
If you are planning to expand your family in the coming months, we recommend visiting our office for a hygiene examination and cleaning. We want to be sure you are not in need of any dental treatments, as certain treatments are not recommended during pregnancy.
Dental Care During Pregnancy
There is no need to skip your dental appointments during your pregnancy. We are able to complete your examinations and would prefer to see you to rule out the development of any issues. Certain pregnancy complications, such as severe morning sickness, can cause lasting damage to the tooth enamel. If you are vomiting frequently, be sure you are brushing your teeth as much as possible after getting sick. Be sure to mention this to our team during your next appointment so we can monitor the state of your teeth.
Dental Care After Pregnancy
Life with a newborn is a different experience for each new parent, but no matter how busy you are, be sure to maintain your routine dental appointments. We want to check your teeth and gums after pregnancy to be sure there are no changes that need our intervention.
If you experience any dental emergencies or conditions that are concerning to you during your pregnancy, please don’t hesitate to call our office located in Phoenix, AZ. We look forward to helping you and your family during this special time, and we look forward to seeing you soon!
